Landscaping Golden Hawks had a busy schedule, they played three games in four
days.
First up, they were on
the road on January 7th to square off against the North Durham
Warriors. Trevor Brooks tore it up in the 1st period, getting yet
another hat-trick in the 1st period. In the 2nd period,
Charlie Mooney notched a beauty, putting the Hawks up 4-0. Late in the 2nd
period the Warriors answered with a goal, going into the 2nd
intermission 4-1 for the Golden Hawks. Halfway through the 3rd period,
the Warrior scored on a power play goal, but the Hawks kept them to only 2
goals, with the solid performance from Carson Down in net. Final score was 4-2
for the Golden Hawks. Notching assists for the Hawks were Mitchell, Kuipers,
Kenney, Webb, Sills and Slone.
On January 8th,
the Hawks hosted the Whitby (White) Wildcats for a Sunday afternoon tilt. After
the 1st period of play, the game remained scoreless. In the 2nd
period, the Wildcats scored the lone goal. Halfway through the 3rd
period, Whitby scored once again, putting them up 2-0. A few minutes after
that, Cole Baird shot in a beauty goal from in close. Then with 2 minutes left
in the game, Landen Brumwell sniped in a nasty goal, bringing the game to a 2-2
tie. The game finished in a 2-2 tie. Joaquim Murray was in net for the Hawks
and made some crucial saves down the stretch. Assists for the Hawks were from
Kenney, Turpin, Kuipers and Storms.
To finish off the busy
schedule, the Golden Hawks were on the road on January 10th to
square off against the Peterborough Petes (Team 1). The Petes came out strong
and scored two goals in the 1st period. With 3 mins left in the
period, Trevor Brooks got the Hawks on the scoreboard with a coast-to-coast beauty.
Then in 2nd period, Brooks scored yet again, bringing the game 2-2
after two periods of action. In the 3rd period, it was a back-and-forth
game with lots of physical action. With 3 mins left in the game, the Hawks were
on a powerplay, and Jack Andrews slapped in a nasty goal from the slot. A
minute after that, the Petes were on a powerplay, and they tied up the game
3-3. The game finished in a 3-3 tie. Carson Down was solid for the Hawks
between the pipes. Taking home the assists were Slone, Baird and Brooks.
This brings the U16A Golden
Hawks regular season record to 19-0-4. Next up, the boys will host the Oshawa
Generals on January 15th at 3:15pm (Duncan McDonald).
