The Image Landscaping U15A Quinte West Golden Hawks kicked off the playoffs on the road, versus the North Durham Warriors on Friday March 04, 2022.

The Hawks opened up the scoring when Avery Wease and Jack Andrews went on a 2 on 1, Andrews drew the d-man over and passed it over to Wease for the one-timer. Then with only 20 seconds left in the 1st period, Jacob Brummel tipped in a beauty goal, off a pass from Ethan Kenney.

Half way through the 2nd period Colby Coe found Brody Pilatzke left wide open in slot, and he snipped it past the Warrior’s goalie. Then Kenney put the Hawks up 4-0 after he stole the puck from a Warrior’s D-man, skated from behind the net and wristed home some top-cheddar from the slot (unassisted).

Late in the 3rd period, Brock Davy notched a nasty power play goal (assisted by Lord). Jack Andrews finished the scoring with only 13 seconds left in the game with a rebound goal from in close (assisted by Davy). Final score was 6-0 for the Golden Hawks.

Dryden Riley was between the pipes. Riley made some big stops, getting the big shut-out win.

During the post-game presser, star Forward Bryce Mitchell was asked, “you looked particularly pumped up for today’s game, what did you do to prepare for the game?” Mitchell responded with, “I tried to just get in the zone, not let anything distract me and try to get my teammates fired up. I also got my teammates laughing when I put on my sunscreen before the game.”

For the Hawks’ next playoff game, they faced off against the Whitby Blue Wildcats at home on March 05, 2022.

During the 1st period of play, the Hawks controlled the puck possession and outshot the Wildcats. Despite the pressure by the Hawks the period ended 0-0.

A few of the Hawks players decided to get their team fired up in the 2nd period with their physical play. Avery Wease started the momentum shift with a massive hit. Then Brock Davy followed up with a beauty of his own just a few seconds later. A couple minutes later, Nathan Sills opened up the scoring with a slapper from the blue line (assisted by Wease). Just 14 seconds later, Wease knocked in the rebound off the shot by Brummel. The Hawks led 2-0, going into the 3rd period.

Captain Brock Davy got in on the hitting train once again, when he gave out massive hit from behind the Wildcat’s goal line. Shortly after that, Davy slapped in a little bit of power-play nastiness from the point (unassisted). 30 seconds later, Charlie Mooney made a beauty pass to an open Ethan Kenney in the slot for another power-play goal (also assisted by Pilatzke). Then the Tate Webb hitting train chugged through the Duncan Arena, when he laid out a Wildcat player. Webb’s hit led to Jacob Brummel getting the puck and streamed down the wing, then snapped home a 5-holer (assisted by Wease).

Carson Down was in the net for the Hawks, getting the big shut-out win.

During the post game presser, star defenceman Tate Webb was asked, “what does it feel like having the reputation of “Beware of Webb” throughout the league? Do you do anything special to prepare for

those big hits?” Webb responded with, “it’s an adrenaline rush with when you make contact with your opponent and hearing everyone cheering from the bench. It’s an awesome feeling. To prepare for the game, I talk with my teammates and try to get everyone in the mood to play a good game to get hyped up. I try to focus on the things I want to do in the game and the mistakes I don’t want to make.”

For the last game in this round of the playoffs, the Hawks will face off versus the Whitby White Wildcats on Thursday 10 March at 8pm (Duncan McDonald Arena).
