Action Packed Weekend
The Image Landscaping U15A Quinte West Golden Hawks started their busy weekend!

The Image Landscaping U15A Quinte West Golden Hawks started their busy weekend with a heavy weight tilt against the Kingston Canadians, on Friday 11 February. The massive hits on both teams were a throwback to the ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ heavyweight bout of Ali vs Foreman way back in 1974. Ask your grandfathers kids, it was a heck of a fight! There were big hits given out on each team. There was a total of 24 penalty minutes and plenty of massive, clean hits given out by each team.

Jack Andrews opened the scoring in the 1st period with a bit of trickery with his shot from behind the net, it hit the Canadian’s goalie’s skate then trickled over the goal line (unassisted). A minute later, Cole Baird put the Hawks up 2-0 with a nasty apple from behind net by Keagen Carr.

Early in the 2nd period, Carr snapped home a power play goal from the slot, with a beauty assist from Brock Davy. A minute later, Charlie Mooney got in on the scoring action and slapped one home (assisted Brody Pilatzke). Then 43 seconds later, Mooney thought ‘thanks for the apple Brody, right back at ya bud’ and set Pilatzke up with a nice pass and Brody wristed in the spectacular goal. The Canadians responded with 2 goals.

There was no scoring action in the 3rd period. The Rumble in the Jungle action finished with Ali aka the Golden Hawks coming away with a 5-2 win.

Carson Down was solid in net for the Golden Hawks, shutting down the late game pressure from the Canadians.

During the post game presser, star forward Brody Pilatzke was asked, “you had a noticeable jump in your step tonight, did you do anything special before tonight’s game that helped you get a goal and an assist?” Pilatzke responded with, “well, on the drive to the game I took my shoes off in the car, so that felt nice on my feet. Then a few days ago, on Monday, I ate pepperoni pizza. When I was eating my last slice, I decided to take the pepperoni off because I found that the pepperoni tasted weird.”

The Image Landscaping U15A Quinte West Golden Hawks continued their busy away weekend with a Saturday night matchup against Whitby Blue Wildcats.

Cole Baird had the lone goal late in the 1st period (assisted by Carr, Brummell)

The Wildcats answered in the 2nd period tying up the game 1-1. Two minutes later, Brock Davy put the Hawks up with a beauty (assisted by Carr) and they never looked back. Then Avery Wease put the Hawks up 3-1 with a snipe from the slot (assisted by Kenney and Andrews).

In the 3rd period, Jack Andrews opened up the scoring with a rebound goal (unassisted). Then Whitby netted a late game goal, from an unlucky bounce, finishing the game 4-2 for the Golden Hawks.

Dryden Riley was solid between the pipes for the Hawks, taking home the big win.

The Image Landscaping U15A Quinte West Golden Hawks finished their gruelling weekend with a road game versus the Oshawa Generals on Sunday, 13 February at 8pm. Despite one or two complaints from

parents (and players) on missing Super Bowl Sunday, and having to get football updates on AM radio on the drive home, the road game was somewhat well received.

Only 30 seconds into the game, Avery Wease opened up the scoring with a nice wrister (assisted by Kenney and Davis) Colby Coe decided to get in on the scoring action with an in-close goal (assisted by Baird).

In the 2nd period, the good times for Weasy kept on rollin’. Brock Davy went coast to coast, drew in the defense and setup Wease in the slot (also assisted by Coe). The Generals responded with a goal. Then Wease responded late in the period, with a bardownski slapper (assisted by Kenney and Davis), bringing home the big Hat-Trick for Wease!

Following the intermission, the Oshawa Generals came out fired up in the 3rd period, scoring 2 unanswered goals. Just when the Hawks players and family thought they were on Candid Camera, the Hawks Coach called an instrumental timeout. It’s rumoured that the coaches told the players something along the lines of, ‘try to suck less’. And the team totally responded! Led by the Captain, Brock Davy with a sick back-handed goal late in the game (assisted by Mooney and Mitchell). The game finished 5-3 for the Golden Hawks.

Carson Down was stellar in net for the Hawks, bringing home the big win.

Star defenseman, Eli Davis was asked following the game, “how were you able to focus on the hockey game, grab two assists along the way, even though it is Super Bowl Sunday?” Davis responded with, “well, my pre-game ritual is to sit in the back of our van, pump-up my music and try my best to ignore my mom. I was excited about the assists and happy that I helped my teammates get goals. For the Super Bowl, I was really happy that we got to stream the game in the dressing room and it was a lot of fun watching it with my teammates.”

This brings the U15A Quinte West Golden Hawks record to 18-0-0. Next matchup for the Hawks is when the faceoff against the North Durham Warriors on Thursday, February 17th at 7pm (Duncan McDonald Arena).
