Weekend Recap
The Image Landscaping U15A Quinte West Golden Hawks had another busy weekend

During the tilt versus the Canadians, the Hawks had 6 players out due to Covid protocols. The shortened bench did not deter the Hawks from putting on a dominating performance.

In the 1st period, Brody Pilatzke opened up the scoring with a rebound goal from in close (assisted by Mooney). Just a few minutes later, Pilatzke knocked in another rebounder for his second of the night (assisted by AP Brendan Reid). Avery Wease then turned on the afterburners and broke past the Canadian’s defence for a nasty breakaway goal (unassisted). Then AP Tyson Gregory snipped in a power play goal late in the period (unassisted), finishing the period 4-0.

There was only one goal in the 2nd period, Charlie Mooney had a beauty power play goal (assisted by Pilatzke). The lack of scoring may have been a result of both teams going at each other physically throughout the period. Some fans were believed to have said that during some points in the game, it was like watching a WWE Wrestle Mania event. The combined penalty minutes between both teams accumulated to a whopping 64 minutes, and one Kingston player being ejected.

In the 3rd period, the Hawks got back to their scoring ways, with Brody Pilatzke getting his hatty, with a five-hole’r (unassisted). Pilatzke went beast-mode during the game. Avery Wease notched his second goal of night, while on the power play and slapped home a nasty top-shelf’er up high, where Grandma keeps the prune juice (assisted by Andrews and Davy).

Carson Down stood tall between the pipes for the Golden Hawks and got the big shutout win. Following the game, Down was asked, “what were the keys in getting the big shutout win?” Down responded with, “I thought the team played well, the AP’s blended in great with the team, and I ate two grilled cheese sandwiches before the game.”

Then the Golden Hawks faced off versus the Whitby Blue Wildcats in a late Sunday afternoon matchup.

Jacob Brummell opened up the scoring a minute into the game with a short-handed goal (unassisted). The Wildcat’s responded with a powerplay goal, tying it up 1-1. Brummell once again got on the scoresheet with a power play goal, from the rebound of ‘birthday boy’ Cole Baird’s shot.

The Wildcats responded halfway through the 2nd period, tying up the game 2-2, with a power play goal. A couple minutes later, Ethan Kenney got behind the Wildcat defence with his ‘Roadrunner’ like speed, and scored an awesome breakaway, back-handed goal (assisted by Wease).

In the 3rd period, there was a lone goal, scored by Charlie Mooney. Mooney knocked in the rebound off the shot of Ethan Lord from the point. The final score was 4-2, for the Golden Hawks.

Dryden Riley was stellar in net for the Golden Hawks. Riley made some key saves coming down the stretch taking home the big win.

During the post-game presser, Ethan Kenney was asked, “how did you get so much speed on that breakaway goal?” The star forward responded with, “well, earlier in the day, my Dad helped me shave off my moustache. It was the first time I shaved so I needed some help. Anyway, I think I had extra speed today because the weight of my moustache was no longer on my face.”

With those two wins, it puts the Golden Hawks undefeated record to 20-0-0. The next game will be against the Kingston Canadians on Wednesday, 23 February at 7pm (Invista Centre)
