The Quinte West Image Landscape Minor Peewee Hawks came home with the gold medals from the 35th Annual Stony Creek Tournament of Champions! This past weekend the Hawks travelled to Hamilton and had a strong showing at their 3rd tournament of the season. They started off Friday with a 7-0 beatdown over Ajax, led by Charlie Mooney’s hat trick and 2 goals by Jack Andrews, along with singles by Sunny Fanjoy and Avery Wease. Holden Webster had 2 assists in this game with other helpers by Wease, Keagan Carr, Ty Turpin, Ethan Lord, Owen Ferguson, Ethan Kenney, Fanjoy, and Andrews. Dryden Riley had the shutout for the Hawks.

For the Friday afternoon game, the Hawks faced Cheekatowaga in another one sided affair. Wease, Andrews, and Carr started the scoring in the first period with assists by Turpin, Ferg, and Sillsy, while the opponents only managed one goal. Mooney led the second period attack with 2 goals assisted by Carr and Colby Coe, and Cheekatowaga matched Ethan Kenney’s goal in the third period to end things at 6-2 for the Hawks. Carson Down had a strong showing in the victory.

The Hawks had 2 games on Saturday, first against the host team Stoney Creek. This was a close battle with the teams trading goals in the first on a Kenney snipe, assisted by Slone. Wease and Brock Davy scored in the second period with help from Ferg and Mooney, and Stoney Creek was only able to get one back. Kenney sealed the deal in the third period which gave the Hawks a 4-2 win with another solid performance by Riley in net. The Saturday Evening game was another convincing 9-1 win for the Hawks over the team from Erie North Shore. The offensive onslaught was led by Wease who had 3, Mooney with 2, Turpin with 2, and singles netted by Kenney and Andrews. Assists were recorded for Sillsy, Lordy, and Fanjoy. Down was solid once again in net!

These four games would put the Hawks in 2nd place heading into the semifinals on Sunday which set up a rematch with Stoney Creek. The Hawks would prove once again to have too much fire power for the Warriors to contend with. Wease and Mooney provided 2 goals a piece with Turpin and Kenney adding singles, and helpers were recorded by Coe, Turpin, Carr, Andrews, Lordy, and Fanjoy. Riley stood on his head in this game making key saves to solidify a 6-3 win and a spot in the final game against Glanbrook.

This was an intense final with back and forth scoring to keep things exciting. Turpin started the scoring for the Hawks on an assist from Wease, and Kenney followed that with a goal of his own on an assist from Ferg. Glanbrook would get one back to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead at the end of 1 period. In the second, Wease would join the offensive attack with 2 goals on helpers from Andrews and Turpin, and Carr would score with a Mooney assist. Glanbrook would also score twice in the second to keep things interesting at 5-3. In the final period, Webby would get the puck to Kenney who netted his first of the game and Fanjoy would score twice with assists from Lordy and Mooney to seal the deal. 8-5 would be the final score and the Quinte West Image Landscape Minor Peewee Hawks are champions of the 35th Annual Stoney Creek Tournament of Champions! Congrats boys!
