The Quinte West Image Landscape Minor Peewee Hawks battled Whitby Blue in a highly anticipated Quarter Finals matchup. This was a gritty series with many highs and lows.

In game 1 the Hawks hosted the opener in a back and forth battle. Whitby came out strong and started the scoring in the first period, but Brock Davy would tie things up with helpers from Ferg and Turpin. Goals would be traded again in the second period, this time with Wease(Davy) netting his own and Whitby keeping things even after 2. The third period would decide nothing as Carson Down stood tall in net as did the Whitby netminder. OT would be needed to end this one and Whitby wouldn’t take long to steal game 1.

Game 2 was another back and forth battle with Lordy(Davy, Mooney) starting the scoring early in the first. Whitby would come back with 2 goals of their own to take a 2-1 lead going into the second. The Hawks would have a strong 2nd period with goals from Carr(Mooney, Coe), Mooney(Carr, Slone), and Wease(Slone, Turpin). Whitby would get 1 in the second to keep the score at 4-3 leading into the final frame. The Hawks couldn’t handle the intensity of the Whitby squad in the 3rd, and gave up 3 goals to lose game 2, and head back home down 0-2 in the series.

In game 3 the Hawks came out with the most intensity and purpose so far in the playoffs. Slone would blast a slapshot past the Whitby netminder to get things going in the first and Davy would dangle his way in to put the score at 2-0 after 1. Kenney would net one of his own in the second period, which was more than enough to put things out of reach for Whitby. Down stood on his head for the shutout and the Hawks would win game 3 in dominating fashion.

Game 4 was another tight game and a must win for the Hawks. The first period was scoreless and the second saw Whitby manage to get one by Down to take a 1-0 lead into the final period. The Hawks battled hard in the 3rd and managed to get goals from Mooney(Slone, Carr) and Andrews(Mooney, Webby). The Hawks would dominate most of the game and managed to pull out a 2-1 win to set up a deciding game 5 back in Quinte West.

The final game of the series was truly exciting with lots of chances by both teams. All the scoring was limited to the second period as Mooney(Davy) was able to net one and the Whitby squad would get 2 of their own. The Hawks would lose the game 2-1 as well as the quarter final series to the Whitby Blue 3 games to 2. Disappointing way to end the playoffs in an undefeated regular season. The Hawks would now have a chance for some redemption as they would compete in the Lakeshore playoffs and would face Oshawa in the first series.
