Hawks Take Bronze At Playstation Platinum Cup
The Rhino Hockey Training Atom Hawks won the bronze medal at the Playstation Platinum Cup in Toronto. 

After going 2-1 in round robin play the Hawks advanced to the semi-final with a 3-1 win over the Nickel City Coyotes on Saturday evening and then fell 2-1 in overtime to the Markham Waxers in the semi-final.

In the tournament opener on Friday the Hawks won a high scoring game 7-5 against the Port Credit Storm. Brendan Reid led the offence with a hat trick while other goals came from Quinton Bogart, Matt Hicks, Connor Kokonas and Gavin Armstrong. Picking up assists were Hicks, Armstrong, Tyson Gregory, Bogart and Reid. Cooper Martin got the win in net.

In game two on Friday he Hawks fell behind 2-0 in the first period before cranking up the offence and came away with a 5-3 victory. Reid scored two goals with singles going to Armstrong, Pearson MacDonald and Tyson Gregory. Assists went to Connor Boates(2), Armstrong(2), Reid and Aiden Haker. Noah Groeneveld picked up the win in net.

Game 3 on Saturday saw the Hawks drop a 5-2 decision to a tough Riverside Rangers team.  Gregory and Reid supplied the offence while Colby Wiersma, Martin, Boates and Armstrong had assists.

Quinte West finished second in their pool after round robin play and won their quarter-final game Saturday evening 3-1 against the Nickel City Coyotes. Gregory scored two goals and Reid scored the other. Assists went to Boates(2) and Jakob Harnest. Noah Groeneveld was strong on net.

On Sunday the Hawks would face off against the Markham in the semi-finals. This was the most entertaining and best game the team played all weekend. The two teams were evenly matched and after regulation the game was tied at one. Both teams had excellent chances in overtime but the Waxers found the back of the net to steal a 2-1 win and secure a birth in the finals. Reid scored the lone goal for the Hawks with Boates and Hicks picking up assists. Cooper Martin was very solid in net.

The Hawks have a light weekend this weekend as their lone game sees the play the Northumberland Nighthawks at home on Saturday at 1:00pm.
