Quinte West U15 A Golden Hawks start the weekend with a win!
The U15 A team started their weekend with a Friday night road game verses Whitby Blue. Despite having a long week at school coupled with a road game drive, the boys showed up to play and came away with a 5-3 win. They outshot Whitby Blue 31-17.
Charlie Mooney opened the scoring in the 1st period with a nice backhand shot in the slot. Mooney was setup by sweet passes from Jack Andrews and Nathan Sills.
The 2nd period had a lot of scoring. Eli Davis opened the scoring by knocking in a nice rebound that was setup by Colby Coe. Then Cole Baird netted a beauty goal with an awesome breakout play initiated by Brock Davy, and Brody Pilatzke. Then Ethan Kenney shot in a one-timer that was setup from an awesome pass from Jack Andrews and Tate Webb. Kenney got an ice cream on the drive home for that one! Whitby then put the foot on the gas for the latter part of the period netting two goals while we were shorthanded.
In the 3rd period, Jacob Brummel had an awesome back-check, he stole the puck from an unsuspecting Whitby Blue player, similar to a pick-pocketer on a New York City subway, and then beat the defense on a spectacular breakaway goal (Unassisted). Whitby also netted a goal in the 3rd period.
Carson Down stood tall in goal making key saves down the stretch and came away with the big win!
It was chippy game, with 10 penalties being called. Two noteworthy penalties, was when Charlie Mooney got body slammed and somehow got called for the penalty. Then Jack Andrews got tied up with the Whitby goalie, he took the goalies’ trapper off with the end of his stick, and flung the trapper about as far as Joe Carter’s World Series homerun.
The Quinte West U15 A Golden Hawks have a busy weekend ahead with a road gave versus Peterborough Pete’s on Saturday, 13 November at 8:15pm. Then play at home (Duncan McDonald Arena) on Sunday, 14 November at 4:15pm versus the Kingston Canadians.
