Hawks Sweep Their Way to OMHA Quarter-Finals
Even though illness had crept into the dressing room and with players in and out of the line-up throughout the weekend the World Elite Training Minor Peewee Hawks found a way to win three straight games this weekend over the second ranked Whitby Wildcats and earn a birth in the OMHA Quarter-Finals.

The series opened Friday night in Whitby and after trailing 2-1 heading to the third period the Hawks found their offence and skated away with a 4-2 victory. Scoring for the Hawks were Tyson Gregory, Connor Boates, Connor Kokonas and Brendan Reid. Assists went to Joey Nieman, Sterling Poff, Kokonas and Gavin Armstrong. Noah Groeneveld had a great game in net and picked up the win.

On Saturday the series returned to the Dunc and after falling behind 1-0 in the early stages of the game the Hawks once again showed their determination and scored three unanswered goals in the first period before wrapping up a 5-2 win. Reid led the offence in this one picking up two goals while singles went to Gregory, Cael Hussey and Kokonas. Picking up assists were Noah Marsh(2), Hussey, Matt Hicks and Boates. Nowl Wallace was solid between the pipes to get the win.

The Hawks hit the road again on Sunday to wrap up a busy weekend and looked to close out the series. After a scoreless first period the Wildcats once again took a 1-0 lead but that was all the offence they could muster as this group of Hawks was not willing to let the game slip away. They tied it up before the end of the second and then put the hammer down in the third to earn a 4-1 win and the series sweep. Hawks goals were scored by Reid, Kokonas, Hussey and Gregory with assists going to Armstrong(2), Hicks and Kokonas. Groeneveld once again was great in net and held the team in the game until the offence took over.

The Hawks will now get a well needed and deserved break while they wait for their quarter-final opponent to come out of the series between the Oshawa Generals  and Clarington Toros.
