Hawks Trail Toros 2-1
The Rhino Hockey Training Minor Atom Hawks trail their first round series 2-1 after the first week of play.

The series opened on Tuesday night in Clarington in what was a great defensive battle. The teams ended regulation tied 0-0. Both teams had some great chances but the goaltenders shut the door every time. However two and a half minutes into overtime the Hawks broke out of their own end and Connor Boates slid the game winner by the Toros goalie. Colby Wiersma and Owen Vis picked up assists on the goal. Cooper Martin was solid in net earning the shut-out victory.

On Saturday, game two was back in Quinte West. After another scoreless period the Toros opened the scoring just over three minutes into the second frame before the Hawks stormed back to score three unanswered goals of their own before the period was over to take a 3-1 lead to the final period. The Toros did not give up and scored three goals of their own in the final five and a half minutes to grab the win and even the series. Scoring for the Hawks were Gavin Armstrong, Aiden Haker and Eli Kenney. Connor Kokonas and Armstrong each picked up an assist.

On Sunday the Hawks traveled back down the 401 for game 3 of the series. After falling behind early they could not generate enough offence to come back and lost 5-2. They now trail the best 3 out of 5 series two games to one. Tyson Gregory and Armstrong provided the offence for the Hawks in this game while Matt Hicks and Kenney had assists.

Game four of the series will take place in Trenton this Saturday and if necessary game five will be back in Clarington on Sunday.
