HAWKS WIN SEASON OPENER
Your Quinte West U13 Select Golden Hawks hit the ice for their first game of the season against the U13 Select Kingston Canadians, at the Dr. McMullen Arena in Frankford Sunday night.

The Hawks came out of the dressing room to a large and loud crowd of family and friends, and they didn't disappoint. Ezekiel Gibson started the game in net for the Hawks  The team had a couple of great chances during the first shift, but the Canadians goalie held their ground. The Hawks hit the scoresheet on the second shift of the game, when Reed Coxwell made a nice pass up to Jackson Doty. Doty skated around the defender on the left side and buried a shot in the top corner of the net just 1:36 into the game. Shortly after, Jackson Dungey found Tye McMurter with a nice pass to send him in on the goalie. McMurter found the back of the net to put the hawks up 2-0 3:17 into the first. Both teams traded chances the rest of the period but couldn't convert. Gibson was in position and made some great saves, blocking all shots coming his way. The Hawks didn't let off, finding the net four times in the second. Nico DiPietrantonio recovered the puck and fed it to Jackson Dungey who found the twine just 2:30 seconds into the second. Two minutes later, Kadyn Bowden set up Doty for his second goal of the night. Next, it was McMurter who stole the puck and buried his second of the game to put the Hawks up 5-0. Gibson made some impressive saves and held Kingston scoreless. He was relieved by goaltender Keegan Wood at the 6:06 mark of the second period. Kingston tested Wood almost immediately, but Wood shut the door. Soon after that big pad save, Bowden passed the puck to Owen Chamberlain who fired a shot from the high circle which beat the Kingston goaltender to make it 6-0 Hawks at the end of two periods.Kingston started off the third period with a push and challenged the Hawks defence. Wood battled in the crease stopping any threat coming his way. The Hawks recovered the puck. DiPietrantonio passed it to McMurter who put one off the post and in for his third goal of the evening, giving the Hawks a commanding 7-0 lead. For the rest of the period both teams battled hard, with both goaltenders coming up big and stymieing the shooters. After his penalty expired, McMurter stepped out of the box and got the puck. He skated in and backhanded the puck off the crossbar down for his fourth goal of the game, unassisted with just 0:43 seconds remaining. Final score, Golden Hawks 8, Kingson 0.The U13 RS Golden Hawks have two games next weekend. Saturday they travel to Lindsay to take on the Muskies at the Lindsay Community Centre at 6:45PM.
