Four Points in Their Opening Weekend for the U14s
The U14 Nomad Quinte West Golden Hawks had an impressive weekend as they kicked off their season in Lakeshore League hockey.

Friday the team would travel to take on the Ajax Raiders.  The first period was an intense back and forth game which saw the Hawks trailing the Raiders 2 - 0.  Logan Fonger would open up the scoring for the Hawks late in the second which was assisted by Cohen Heales.
The team would come out flying in the third and quickly Keegan Goulah would get one past the goalie to tie it up.  With this momentum under their belt the Hawks would score another three goals to take their first game of the season.
Scoring for the Hawks would be Malcolm Brooks (2), and another from Goulah.  Assists from Riley Kavanagh(2), Heales, Brooks and Hunter Bradbury(2).  Nico Toussaint was steady between the pipes as they took down the Raiders with a score of 5 to 2.

Saturday the U14 Nomads would hit the road, this time travelling to Kingston. After falling to the Canadians 4 to 1 in a preseason exhibition game the Hawks came out to battle and battle they did!  Hawks would walk away taller after a 5 to 1 victory against Kingston.
Riley Kavanagh would open the scoring for the team in the first 35 seconds of the game which was assisted by Keegan Goulah.  Riley would land a second goal before the period came to an end.

Kingston would find the scoreboard when the Hawks found themselves in some penalty trouble and Kingston had the 5 on 3 man advantage.  That would be the only time they scored on the Nomad Hawks goalie, Owen Curran.  The team would have an incredible second period where they showed their offensive skills.  Cohen Heales would set up the play to assist in Cam Slone's goal while Andrew Gilson would hand over a slick pass to Heales for him to score.  Joey Nieman would riffle one at the post then go in.  Assists from Slone, Antonio Popiel and Rhys Lawrence.
The third although uneventful on the scoreboard was anything but.  Kingston came out a little feistier but were held off by the Golden Hawks who claimed the game, 5 to 1.
Next weekend the U14 team has their home season opener on Saturday Oct 15th at 5pm.  Be sure to come out and watch your team as they are set to take on the Oshawa Generals in the Duncan MacDonald arena.  Sunday they head to North Durham and take on the Warriors.
