Quinte West U11AA Golden Hawks traveled to Niagara Falls to compete in the Peter Mancuso November Challenge tournament this weekend. While they aren’t coming home champions, they are coming home with some amazing memories, team building and an eagerness to develop their skills.
The first game of the tournament, bright and early Friday morning, saw the Hawks come out on top. Hawks played hard to take home a 3-1 win versus Lasalle Sabres. Goals were scored by Josh Korver, Kohen Couperus and Ben Villeneuve. Assists went to Roy Finch, Brody Bucholtz, Griffin Van Gemeren, Ben Villeneuve and Levi Mallory.
With a short break between games the Hawks were back on the ice to battle against the Seaway Valley Rapids. It was a tough game and the Hawks battled hard but ended the game in a 4-0 loss.
Saturday of the tournament brought another bright and early game and another win for the Hawks versus Newmarket Renegades with a score of 1-0. The lone goal was scored by Nikolai Caron, unassisted.
A long break between games saw the Hawks back at the arena just after dinner to play their final qualifying game of the tournament versus Garden City Falcons. This game would see the winner moving on to the semi finals the following day. They battled hard but couldn’t sink the puck into the net to take the win. Hawks ended the game in a 3-1 loss. The goal was scored by Noah Carré-Stewart.
Goaltenders Bryce Lawrence and Preston Martin played strong in net this weekend.
