Silver Stick Regional Tournament – Nov 26 - 28
As every Leafs fan is painfully aware, the math rarely works out. The U16A Golden Hawks played their first tournament in almost 2 years (COVID sucks!!) in Cobourg at the Northumberland Regional Silver Stick tournament.

Game 1 was against the Casselman Embrum Ice Dogs from the Ottawa area. The game was even to start, with a goal apiece in the first and the score remained that way until the 3rd.  The Hawks turned it up a notch and netted 2 goals in 3rd to skate to a 3 – 1 win.  Goals by Darren Dyer, Aidan Molenhuis and Reighan Rosa with Cody Harron recording the win in net.

The next 2 games would be against 2 teams the 06 Hawks had faced in previous OMHA semifinals and would be good chance to see how they stacked up against their York Simcoe competition. Georgina Blaze was their game 2 opponent, the boys and girl played well and dominated the play but could only manage a 1 – 1 tie.  Goal by Lukas Scaletta and Denholm Blair with the tie in net.

The Orillia Terriers, a tough opponent 2 years ago, proved too much to handle this weekend as well. Tied 0 – 0 after 1, the Terriers scored once in the second and twice in the third to hand them a 3 – 0 loss.

With a 1-1-1 record, the team’s fate was in the hands of others to see if they would move onto the playoff round.
They needed to wait until the result of the Casselman v Georgina game; a Casselman win would keep the Hawks out of the playoffs, a tie would see them move on and a Georgina win would come down to the “math” to see who would land in the 4th and final playoff spot. Georgina won the game 2 - 0.

Remember the earlier Leafs and math comment… well they lost on GF% and they had the Sunday off.
