The Image Landscaping Quinte West U15A Golden Hawks hosted the Whitby Blue Wildcats on December 19th for a late afternoon showdown.

In the 1st period, the Hawks had the puck possession for the majority of the period, but were unable to get the puck past the Wildcat’s goalie. It was a hard-hitting period, with Charlie Mooney opening up the big hits, with what looked like a bowling ball ‘strike’, when he took out a bunch of bowling pins aka Wildcat players with one hit! Then Ethan Lord contributed to the hard-hitting affair with a nasty hit at centre ice. The newest addition to the Hawks team, Avery Wease decided to get in on the ‘Merry Christmas’ action with a massive hit on a Wildcat at the goal line.

Keagan Carr opened up the scoring in the 2nd period (unassisted) with a sick little dangle, fooling the Wildcat’s defense, and went top-cheese. The big hitting continued with a crushing hit given out by Tate Webb on a Wildcat against the boards. The Wildcats must not have gotten the ‘Beware of Webb’ advisory poster in the Barrie Arena. Whitby tied up the game late in the period with a questionable goal that went over the goal-line when the net was off the posts.

The dominate play of the Hawks continued in the 3rd period, outshooting and outhitting the Wildcats. The Whitby tender stopped a lot of quality shots. However, with 4 minutes left in the game, Wease knocked in the game winner at the side of the net (assisted by Brody Pilatzke).

Dryden Riley was in the net for the Golden Hawks and brought home the big win!

During the post-game presser, star forward Avery Wease was asked, “what did you do special before your Golden Hawks debut today?” Wease responded with, “I took a bite out of Jack Andrews’ famous pre-game bagel. Then for some reason, he Steph Curry’d the bagel into the garbage can?!”

This brings the U15A Golden Hawks regular season record to 13-0-0. Adding to the spectacular year, the team also went undefeated in tournament play in 2021. The parents and players would like to thank the coaching staff for bringing out the best in the players. 2021 was a great hockey year and we look forward to what 2022 will bring!

Happy holidays from the Quinte West U15A Golden Hawks!
