U9 Golden Hawks are OMHA Lakeshore Champions!
March 11-13th our U9 Golden Hawks competed in the OMHA Lakeshore Championship in Kingston.

First up Quinte West faced off against the Oshawa Generals-Red. Alexander Brant took the crease for the Hawks ready to battle. Our Golden Hawks were flying and were no match for the Generals as Quinte West defeated Oshawa 11-1. Goals Scored by Kye Ralph (5), Colby MacDonald (3), Kaden Van Gemeren (2), and Wade Robinson (1).

Game two, the Golden Hawks faced off against the Peterborough Petes. It was a tense back and forth game but the Hawks pulled through with a 4-0 win. Hawks goals scored by Colby MacDonald (2), Kaden Van Gemeren (1), and Lucas Corbin-Miron (1). Brent Conrod earned the shutout for Quinte West.

Game three Quinte West took on the North Durham Warriors. Our Hawks were soaring as they found the back of the net early and never looked back with a 9-2 victory. Alex Brant and Brent Conrod shared the win. Goals scored by Kye Ralph (4), Colby MacDonald (3), and Wade Robinson (2).

Game four the Golden Hawks faced off against the Oshawa Generals-White. The Golden hawks continued to roll as they finished up their round robin games. The Hawks were unstoppable as they meant business taking down the Generals in a 10-1 victory. Brent Conrod and Alex Brant shared the win. Quinte West goals scored by Colby MacDonald (5), Wade Robinson (4), and Kye Ralph (1). 

The Golden Hawks faced off against the mighty Peterborough Petes in the the semi finals. Brent Conrod started between the pipes for the hawks. It was a tense back and forth game with both teams playing hard and not letting up leaving the game scoreless after the first period. Kye Ralph opened up the scoring in the second but both teams held their own to finish the period with a 1-0 lead for the hawks. Quinte West battled hard with a goal by Holt Poirier and Colby MacDonlad to start the third period but the Petes struck back scoring 3 times to tie the game and ending regulation time. 3 on 3 overtime began as Ralph, MacDonald and Robinson took the ice. There was no stopping Wade Robinson as he flew past his opponents and scored the big overtime goal giving the Golden Hawks the 4-3 victory and their shot at redemption against the high flying Whitby Wildcats in the Finals.

Quinte West faced off against the Whitby Wildcats in the Championship game, the only team they had lost to in the regular season. The Golden Hawks were hungry for the win. Alexander Brant took the crease for the hawks. They game began with both teams battling hard but Whitby struck first and held their lead to end the first period. The second period began with both teams not letting up. Wade Robinson found himself with an opportunity to tie the score with a penalty shot and came out on top to even the score. Kye Ralph followed his Captain's lead with a breakaway goal of his own to give the Golden Hawks a 2-1 lead. Just as the Hawks momentum was taken up a notch, there was a 40 minute delay due to a false fire alarm. Once play resumed, the cold, fresh air must have agreed with the hawks as Colby MacDonald scored 3 straight goals to end the second period giving the Golden Hawks a 5-1 lead. The third period began with stellar defensive play by our defense, Cullen Bovine/Emma Seeney and Wade Robinson/ Lucas Corbin-Miron but Whitby continued to battle hard and found the back of the net two times making the score 5-3 with 5 minutes to go. With the game coming to a close, the Wildcats pulled their goalie and the pressure was on for the Hawks but the hard working Lucas Scriver put the game away with an empty net goal giving the Golden Hawks a 6-3 victory.

The coaching staff, Nic Robinson, Rob MacDonald, Brian Bovine, and James Williamson are extremely proud of this hardworking and dedicated group of young players and couldn't be happier with their effort and game play during this championship tournament.
