U9 Golden Hawks Take home Silver!
The U9 Golden hawks finished 2nd at the Walt McKechnie Classic tournament in Haliburton, February 26-27.

Up first the Golden hawks faced off against the Kawartha Coyotes. Brent Conrod took the crease for the hawks with focus and determination. Colby MacDonald scored first to give the hawks the lead but the Coyotes responded with a quick goal to tie it up. Kaden Van Gemeren and his smooth moves responded 10 seconds later to give the hawks a 2-1 lead heading into the 2nd period. Wade Robinson opened the scoring up in the 2nd with the Coyotes hot on our heels keeping the game tight at 3-2 to end the 2nd period. The 3rd period the Golden Hawks defense battled hard and shut down the Coyotes, allowing Kye Ralph to score twice giving the Golden Hawks the 5-2 win.

Next up Quinte West took on the Millbrook Stars. Alexander Brant started between the pipes and ready to battle. The 1st period was a tense back and forth game but Colby MacDonald scored giving the Golden hawks the lead heading into the 2nd. MacDonald found the back of the net again but Millbrook quickly retaliated with a goal of their own. MacDonald was having no part of that and struck again giving the Golden Hawks a 3-1 lead to finish the period. In the 3rd our Golden Hawks found their stride with our rock on the blue line, Emma Seeney scoring her first goal of the season. Their was no stopping Wade Robinson as he added to the lead and the Flying Kye Ralph with 2 more goals to give the Golden Hawks a 7-1 win.

The Golden Hawks then faced off against the Dundas Blues in the semi finals. Kye Ralph led the charge by striking first. Wade Robinson added to the lead with his quick moves giving the hawks a 2-0 lead. Colby MacDonald started the 2nd period with a quick goal. Our forwards were flying but the Blues held off the Golden Hawks for the remainder of the period leaving the score at 3-0. Wade Robinson meant business as he started off the 3rd period with a pair of goals and Kye Ralph adding to the lead giving the Golden Hawks the 6-0 win. Brent Conrod got the shut out for Quinte West.

Next up our Golden Hawks faced off against the Newcastle Stars in the championship finals. Alexander Brant took the crease for Quinte West. Our Hawks found themselves trailing as Newcastle took an early lead in the 1st. Our Golden Hawks battled hard in the 2nd but couldn't find the back of the net and the Stars adding to their lead. Our strong defensive duos of Seeney/Bovine and Robinson/Corbin-Miron protected the blue line holding the Stars off to keep the game 2-0 for Newcastle. Wade Robinson opened up the scoring in the 3rd giving the Golden Hawks a fighting chance. With only 2 minutes to go in the 3rd, the Golden Hawks never gave up hope with Kye Ralph scoring a huge goal to tie the game. Both teams stood strong and held their own with Alex Brant making huge saves to end regulation time in a 2-2 tie and heading to overtime. Both teams battled hard with both goalies making stellar saves to keep their team alive. With overtime coming to an end, Newcastle found themselves on a powerplay and also found the back of the net and taking the win 3-2. Our Golden Hawks fought hard but came up just short. The coaching staff couldn't be happier with the hard work and dedication from the whole team.
