Minor Bantams split their weekend games
The Pita Pit Minor Bantams split their weekend games against the Peterborough andWhitby Blue.

Saturday was a trip up to Peterborough to meet the Petes. Their first meeting earlier this year saw the Petes coming away with a 3 – 2 victory so the Hawks were anxious to change this game’s outcome. Trey Cocek (assist Ben Bridger) put the Hawks ahead inthe first but the Petes answered back to make it tied going into the second. Cocek’s second of the game (assist Matthew Jones) put the Hawks back in front in the second and Kirk Stevenson (assist Caroline Dolton) scored in the third for 2 goal cushion. The Petes narrowed the margin to 1 but could put no more past netminder Xander Reid and the Hawks skated away with a closely battled 3 – 2 victory. Their home game on Sunday versus the Whitby Wildcats Blue was a feisty affair with the teams amassing a combined total of 121 minutes in penalties; the majority assessed during a scrum midway through the third period. The game to that point had actually been a pretty good back and forth game with the Hawks edging the Wildcats in puck control but had trouble getting the puck in the net. They could only manage one goal inthe first from Cole Hazlewood (assist Bridger) and one late in the third from Stevenson(assist Hazlewood) while Whitby scored 5 times, handing the Hawks a 5 – 2 loss. The Minor Bantams travel to Halton Hills this weekend to play in their Best of the Best Tournament, October 11-13.
