Hawks are A Finalists
The 413 Wing Peewee AE Hawks had a excellent outing this past Saturday, at the Brighton Peewee Hockey Tournament, finishing as A Finalists.

The Hawks opened the tournament against the host Brighton Braves, coming out on top with a 5-2 win.  After playing a scoreless first period, Brighton opened the scoring two minutes into the second period.  The Hawks responded quickly with Jakob Briscoe netting his first with Gabe Miller and Bryce Mitchell picking up assists. Less then two minutes later, Owen Ferguson scored five seconds into a power play to take a 2-1 lead, Mitchell picking up his second assist. In the third the Hawks took over with Briscoe getting his second goal of the game with assists to Mitchell (3) and Miller (2). Ferguson scored another power play goal (2) with the lone assist to Mitchell (4).  Brighton was able to get one more goal past Cooper Martin late in the third, but the Hawks proved too strong adding an empty net goal from Felix Paradis, with assists to Quinton Bogart and Spencer Power.  Martin was strong in net to get the win for the Hawks.

The Hawks faced the Newcastle Stars in the second game of the tournament.  The Hawks picked up where they left off in the first game, scoring 5 goals in the first period. Briscoe continued his torrid pace, scoring 2 more goals, with singles going to Brodie Marcucci, Mitchell, and Bogart.  Assists in the first period went to Brock Kritzer, Paradis, and Bogart. Newcastle was able to get one past Reese Deline in the first period. The next two periods was all Newcastle, scoring four consecutive goals, with the last one coming with three seconds left in the third period, forcing overtime. The Hawks wasted little time putting away the feisty Stars, 25 seconds into the 3 on 3 overtime, Briscoe made a great pass on a 2 on 1 to Mitchell, who made no mistake in burying the feed for the overtime winner. Deline was solid in net to salvage the 6-5 OT win.

In the finals, the Hawks faced the Orono Leafs, who were also undefeated coming into the final game.  This was a goaltender's battle. Both teams traded scoring chances throughout the game but Martin's strong play kept the game scoreless after regulation.  In overtime, Orono was able to capitalize on a broken play, getting a bullet of a shot off just inside the top of the circle.  Martin was able to get a piece of the shot, but the puck barely crossed the line for the Orono Leafs win.

Earlier in the week, the Hawks traveled to Oshawa to face the Generals.  The Hawks bus legs showed early allowing 5 goals against in the first period. The Hawks were able to put up a little more fight in the next two periods, breaking the shut out bid late in the third. Owen Ferguson scored, with the lone assist going to Brodie Marcucci. Final score was 7-1 and Reese Deline took the loss for the Hawks.

The Hawks have a busy week ahead, traveling to Northumberland to take on the Nighthawks on Tuesday. Saturday they will host the Peterborough Petes and will travel Sunday to take on the Whitby White Wildcats.
