It was a busy December for the Quinte West Image Landscape Peewee A Hawks

It was a busy December for the Quinte West Image Landscape Peewee A Hawks as they wrapped up regular season play in preparation for the Silver Stick tournament in Michigan next weekend.  They had a solid outing in Clarington where their offensive powers were put on display early. Goals by Fanjoy(Davy, Carr) and Andrews(Carr) would get things going in the first, followed by three more in the second by Andrews(Davy, Carr), Slone, and Wease(Pilatzke).  The boys wouldn’t let up in the third as the lead was padded by Davy(Wease), Mooney(Coe), and Webb(Andrews).  Clarington would get one back in the final period with an otherwise flawless performance by Dryden Riley to secure an 8-1 drubbing.

The Hawks would next play Peterborough in a weeknight matchup which was a back and forth affair.  The Hawks would find the back of the net early with Mooney(Fanjoy, Coe) snapping in the lone goal of the period.  Wease(Davy, Carr) would add to the lead in the second but Peterborough was relentless and would get one back to keep things close.  Wease(Pilatzke) would get another in the third but Peterborough would not be denied on this evening and managed to find the back of the net three times to hand the Hawks their second loss of the season with a 3-4 final.  Carson down did his best to keep the Hawks in this one and made some crucial saves to keep things close.

This was another anticipated matchup as the Hawks travelled to play Whitby White who gave them a close battle earlier this season.  The first period was relatively even with neither team able to find the scoresheet. Things would open up in the second with goals by Fanjoy(Coe) and Wease.  Whitby would match both goals to keep things even heading into the third period. Wease would score his second of the game which was matched by Whitby to end things even at 3-3.  Dryden Riley had another solid outing making key saves throughout the game.

The Hawks hosted Whitby Blue to end 2019 on a high note.  This was another tough battle and Davy(Mooney, Pilatzke) would start the scoring in the first.  Carr would get his own in the second followed by a Whitby goal to end the period.  Carson Down would continue his stellar play through the third to keep the Hawks on top and secure the 2-1 win.

The New Year started with the final matchup between the Hawks and Whitby White in a battle for top spot heading into the playoffs.  The Hawks came out strong in the first getting an early goal from Brock Davy.  Webster(Coe, Lordy) would add one shortly after to put the Hawks up by two after one period. Carr(Andrews) would net another in the second and that was all that was needed to maintain the lead and notch a 3-1 win.  Dryden Riley stood on his head to make some crucial saves in this physical affair.

The final regular season game had the Hawks travel to Kingston.  This was not a pretty affair, but the boys kept their cool despite questionable calls.  Andrews would get the Hawks on the board in the first and he would strike again(Carr) early in the second.  Carr and Pilatzke(Lordy, Mooney) would add to the lead and Davy would net the Hawks lone third period goal.  Kingston would take advantage of their multiple power plays to get 2 goals back in the third but couldn’t manage to mount a comeback.  Carson Down would get the 5-2 victory and help solidify the top spot in their division.

Stay tuned for Silver Stick results and first round playoffs which will see the Hawks face Ajax in a best of 5 series.  Let’s Go Hawks!!
