League Start

The 2019-2020 Hawkey season is upon us and your Quinte West Image Landscape Peewee Hawks jumped into the regular season with a successful first week back! The boys participated in a mid week exhibition game against Frontenac which was a perfect way to get the rust out and try to build some chemistry and confidence heading into the regular season. The crew came out to a relatively slow start with lone first period goal by Cole Baird. Frontenac would match and keep the final frame even. The floodgates would open in the second period with goals by Avery Wease (Davy), Brody Pilatzke(Davy), Jack Andrews(Sillsy), Charlie Mooney(unassisted), and Brock Davy(Baird). The flyers would get a couple back in the period and one more in the third but didn’t have the firepower to out match the Hawks who would leave with a 6-4 victory. It was a good warm-up win for the boys who would face Peterborough in their first regular season game on Saturday. The Hawks dominated this game from start to finish and controlled the puck for the majority of play. The Hawks had a pair of goals in the first with Sunny Fanjoy tipping in a slap shot from Eli Davis, and Jack Andrews(Carr, Baird) netting his own to take control of the first frame. Fanjoy(Mooney) and Weasey(Slone, Mooney) would add to the carnage in the second and Peterborough would manage to get a lucky goal to get on the board. The Hawks would continue the beat down in the final frame with a second goal from Weasey(Davy), a second goal from Andrews(Fanjoy), a third from Fanjoy(Andrews), and Dex Slone(Sillsy, Baird) would snipe one to add insult to injury and finish off the Petes 8-1. Carson Down played solid in net making some stellar saves and the Hawks would come away feeling confident about a rematch on Sunday. Game two would be a different story as the Petes were reluctant to be embarrassed two days in a row. They matched the Hawks energy in the first period and neither team was able to find the back of the net. Brody Pilatzke(Andrews) would score the only goal of the game in the second period to allow the Hawks to record a 1-0 victory in a game they would soon rather forget. This game was overshadowed by questionable penalties and the Hawks would play much of the game short handed. Carson Down made some fantastic saves in the final few minutes to ensure a victory and walk away with a record of 2-0 after the first weekend of regular season play. The Hawks will travel to Richmond hill on Friday to compete in the Mary Parkinson Memorial Early Bird Tournament. Stay Tuned!!
