Peewee A OMHA Champions…#Redhats!!
After posting an impressive record of 15 wins and only 2 losses in the playdowns the Pita Pit Peewees are now the 2018-19 OMHA Champs after defeating the Owen Sound Jr Attack. The Hawks were up 2 games to none heading to Owen Sound looking to finish the series in 3 games. The Hawks played hard, came to win, and were crowned champions after their 6 – 4 win.

The Hawks never trailed in this game but it started out as a close checking affair with both teams not wanting to give any opportunities to the other. Sunny Fanjoy opened the scoring in the first for the Hawks off a nice 2-on-1 pass from Nolan Donnelly. They increased their lead with 1 second left in the first when Aidan Molenhuis put in the rebound off a Trey Cocek shot.

The Attack answered quickly in the second to make it a one goal game again. The teams then traded chances with some exciting back and forth play.  Midway through the frame Donnelly (unassisted) and Cocek (assist Molenhuis) scored almost identical goals 10 seconds apart with a high shot that bounced off the goalie’s shoulder, arched up and over the goalie and into the net.  This gave the Hawks what seemed like a comfortable 3-goal lead but was narrowed by Owen Sound with 2 quick goals of their own to once again bring it to within a goal.  The Hawks played a bit on their heels for the balance of the period and were happy to head to the dressing room between periods to regroup with a 4-3 lead.

The Peewees came out for the third determined and built another 3-goal lead off goals from Cole Hazlewood (assist Donnelly) and Fanjoy (assists Matthew Jones and Liam Storms).  Owen Sound could only manage to get one back so when the final buzzer sounded the gloves and helmets flew off and the boys were handed the coveted OMHA champion #redhats!

Cody Harron was a stand out in net for the Hawks making many highlight reel stops to keep the Attack at bay and earn the win!

The Pita Pit Peewees are now headed to the Ontario Hockey Federation championship April 12 – 14 in Burlington to play the top teams from the Greater Toronto Hockey League, Northern Ontario Hockey Association and Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario.
