The Peewees take the first two games!!
The Pita Pit Peewees have put themselves in a great position taking the first two games of their OMHA final series against the Owen Sound Jr Attack. The first two games were played at the Dunc and the Hawks took full advantage of the home ice. Earlier this year the Peewees were beaten by Owen Sound in the International SilverStick Tournament Championship game so they were hungry for payback. And they were hungry!
The boys came out playing hard in Game 1; pressuring the puck for the entire game not giving Owen Sound any time to set up their attack. The Hawks scored early in the first but the Attack answered back a couple of minutes later. The Peewees would score again in the first and another in the second to lead 3 – 1 after 2.The Hawks broke the game open in the third adding four more goals to win 7 – 2.Game 2 did not start as well as the first with the Attack jumping out to a 2 – 0 lead in the first period and looking eager to avenge their game 1 loss. But the Peewees remainedcalm and chipped away at the lead to end up leading 3 – 2 after two periods of play.They would increase the margin to two goals midway through the third. Another win was looking likely as the score remained this way until late in the frame but Owen Sound was not finished. They closed the gap to one goal with under three minutes leftand tied it up just before the 1-minute mark. With overtime looming and the momentum shifting, the Hawks mounted one last offensive late in the third and were rewarded witha goal just 11 seconds before the final buzzer and a 5 - 4 win.The Pita Pit Peewees are now one win away from the OMHA championship! The series now shifts to Owen Sound for Games 3 and 4 (if needed) on Saturday March 23 at 3:30and Sunday March 24 at 1:00.Go Hawks Go! #goldjackets
