The Pita Pit Peewees are moving onto the OMHA Semi-finals!
The Pita
Pit Peewees faced their toughest test of the playdown run so far in the Whitby Blue
Wildcats. It was a home team series with
the home side winning every game and the Hawks winning the series 6 points to 4.
Game 1 was
not the prettiest games of hockey to watch with the Peewees falling behind 2 –
0 and 3 – 1 early on. They did eventually
find their legs and the back of the net for a 6 – 3 win.
Game 2 in
Whitby was a tightly fought contest that saw few goals and the Hawks ended with
one fewer, losing 2 – 1.
Twas a cold
night at the McMullen Recreation Centre in Frankford for Game 3 but the chill
and smaller ice surface agreed with the Peewees as they dominated the play and
the score to win 5 – 1.
Back in Whitby for Game 4 the Hawks came out strong scoring first on a short-handed effort but Whitby answered back quickly on the same power play to tie it back up. The Hawks twice built up 2 goal leads but were unable to hang on with Whitby coming back to win 5 – 4. The McMullen Recreation Centre was the setting for the fifth and deciding game of the series. The Hawks found themselves down 2 – 0 early but refused to give up and went into the third period with the score knotted at 2 goals a piece. The boys were not to be denied and piled in another 5 goals winning by a 7 – 3 margin; capturing the Lakeshore League Championship and earning their spot in the OMHA semi-finals. The Pita Pit Peewees will play the Georgina Blaze starting Saturday March 2nd in Georgina (on the south shore of Lake Simcoe). Game 2 will be at home Sunday March 3rd in the Duncan McDonald arena at 3pm.
