Pita Pit Peewee Hawks Silver Stick Finalists
The Pita Pit Peewees were Michigan bound January 10 to 13 for the International Silver Stick Finals held in Port Huron.

The Peewee Hawks played some great hockey throughout the tournament but fell short in the finals. Their first 2 opponents in round robin play were US teams from Ann Arbor, Michigan and Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Goals came as quick and as often as paint balls from a paint gun for the Hawks in both games and they bettered both squads by the same 10 – 1 score. The final game of the round robin promised to be a much tougher test against the St. Thomas Stars.  The Hawks had grappled with the Stars at a tournament earlier this season that saw the Stars coming away with the win.  The boys were looking to change the outcome in this contest.  St. Thomas lit the goal lamp first but the Hawks evened the score in the second to head into the third all tied up at 1.  Chances from both sides were turned away by great goaltending and the final score remained 1-1. They finished first in their pool and set themselves up for a quarter final match up with the Arvada Hockey Club from Colorado. Again goals came quickly as the Hawks jumped out to a 2 – 0 lead 30 seconds into the game.  The scoring continued with the final recorded as a 9 – 2 win. The semifinals would be against the Vaughan Rangers on Sunday morning.  The Hawks gained a 3 goal lead but the Rangers clawed back to make it a 1 goal game in the second.  The Hawks would not be denied though and outscored Vaughan 7 – 4 to earn their spot in the finals that afternoon. The Owen Sound Jr Attack had outscored their opponents 39 – 3 coming into the finals so the boys knew they needed their best game of the tournament to win.  Shots were even between the two teams but Owen Sound built a 3 – 0 lead which the boys were just not able to recover from. The Attack would prove to be too much for the Hawks as they were downed 5 - 1.  The boys worked hard all weekend and coaches, parents and family were all very proud of the boy’s performance! Congratulations to Nolan Donnelly and Jordan McLaughlin for being named tournament All Stars.
