Game 5: QW Black Hawks vs. QW Avengers
It appears the Avengers like to keep the fans on the edge of their seats. Once again the fans, coaches and the players at the bench were having heart palpitations watching the action on the ice. A nail biter does not do justice to the action and excitement generated at the Avengers games. The Avengers are one great team that have great heart, play with respect and passion and clearly have passion for everything hockey.

The Avengers got off to a good start in the first period with the QW Black Hawks putting on the pressure and spending a good deal of time in the Avengers zone. Some suspect it took some time for the Avengers to get used to their awesome new jerseys and required a period to break them in. That thought was short lived when the Avengers started things off by getting on the score board early. The Avengers goal at 8:09 in the first period was scored by defense-man Matthew assisted by forwards Jacob and Mason. Matthew, Jacob and Mason had to work hard for the goal but a great pass from Jacob to Mason and over to Matthew setup Matthew for a quick shot straight through the center of the Black Hawks goalies pads to take an early lead 0-1. Nice goal Matthew and excellent assist Jacob and Mason! But this was just the beginning... At 3:56 of the first period the Black Hawks scored to tie the game 1-1, a rebound off the pads of Sean-Ryan was picked up by the Black Hawks and they were able to get the second shot past the Avengers goalie.

In the second period things really started to pick up when the Black Hawks took the lead 2-1 at 7:49 of the second. Then with 42 seconds left in the second period the Black Hawks scored another goal making it 3-1. The Avengers never waivered, Gavin from the Avengers then scored with 5 seconds left of the second period with what looked like an effortless shot. Although anyone who has ever played hockey knows its rarely effortless. The Black Hawks were still ahead of the Avengers 3-2 going into the third period, everyone now knew this was going to be another one of those exciting games.

The sweat was pouring off the Avengers as they were giving it their all to bring the game back in to their favor. Looking to the Avengers Defense to keep things in check and help their awesome goalie Sean-Ryan keep the puck out of the Avengers net and out of the Avengers zone, Ethan, Leighton and Matthew kept the pressure on the Black Hawks and made some key plays that with out a doubt kept the Black Hawks from getting any additional goals in the second. Way to go Defense!!

Lets move to the third period where the action was really intense. Sean-Ryan made some key saves that stopped the Black Hawks from moving far ahead on the score board early in the third. The Avengers forwards Jacob, Mason, Kaileb, Damien and Gavin went into over-drive and once again were communicating well, looking for each other to complete passes and moving the puck into the Black Hawks zone with confidence. The team work paid off when at 9:43 of the third Gavin scored his second goal of the game assisted by Kaileb to bring the score to a tie of 3-3. But the Avengers were not finished, at 9:09 of the third Mason score an unassisted goal to give the lead to his team (The Avengers) 3-4. The Black Hawks then turned things around and scored the tie goal at 8:24, the score was now 4-4. The Avengers still had time. The coach, assistant coach and trainer were coaching the players between shifts and the Avengers took the information supplied to them and applied it on the ice. At 7:48 of the third period Matthew of the Avengers scored his second goal of the game which was assisted by Mason and Gavin. This gave the Avengers the lead 4-5.

The Black Hawks moved down the ice and scored another goal at 7:29 to tie the game once again at 5-5. The clock was running down, everyone wondered was this going to end in another tie for the teams? At 3:02 of the third period Gavin scored his third goal of the game giving him a hat-trick for the second time in as many games. Hats off to Gavin!! Gavin's third goal was assisted by Matthew and Ethan. This put the Avengers ahead by a goal late in the third, the score was 5-6. The Black Hawks straped on the wheels and were applying all the pressure they had, a shot by the Black Hawks had all the earmarks of a goal but the Avengers defense were positioned perfectly and they stopped that flying puck at the perfect time. With about a minute left in the third the Black Hawks pulled their goalie but the Avengers never let up and as the clock ticked down the final seconds the Avengers were in the Black Hawks zone looking to put a goal in the empty net. The buzzer went, play stopped and the Avengers took the match. The Avengers played a very respectful game and were rewarded for their hard work with the win. Great game Black Hawks and way to work together out their Avengers!!  Whew!! That was a close one. :)
